The summer brings warm sun, beaches and swimsuits but it also forces people to put away those winter clothes and reveal those limbs that have been hidden for months – particularly their arms. Many women are embarrassed to reveal their arms or what they refer to as ‘bingo wings’. Unfortunately, this has created a huge misconception about women who play bingo. ‘Bingo wings’ refers to a stereotype of bingo-playing women that have ‘unattractive’ arms – a stereotype that is simply not true. Most women who play bingo are healthier than those who do not because they not only move around during the game but they also meet new people who they can do other physical activities with.
The Truth about ‘Bingo Wings’
One survey conducted in the United Kingdom shows that 56% of women would give away their designer purses or shoes in order to have perfect arms and about 66% say that arms are the first attribute they see in other women. An incredible 87% of women said they would gladly pay £50 to get rid of their ‘bingo wings’. Ironically, playing bingo is a great way to get rid of ‘bingo wings’. While bingo is not an intense sport, it certainly forces people to get out of their homes and move around – especially their arms. Participating in bingo also gives women a chance to meet new people who may have the same interests and hobbies they do. This means women can meet others who enjoy playing tennis, walking or a number of other physical activities that can enjoyed as a group. Organizing a group or just going with a friend to exercise takes the tediousness away from the workout and creates a huge boost in motivation.
Getting Rid of Those ‘Bingo Wings’
As mentioned earlier, a great way to get rid of ‘bingo wings’ is to actually play bingo. The simple arm movements that are involved in bingo are easy and simply use gravity and body weight as resistance. These types of activities can tone and create definition that is necessary for healthy looking arms. Celebrity trainer Efua Baker says that it is not a surprise that the appearance of arms is important to many women, particularly in stubborn areas like the triceps on the back of the arm. Women who are happy with their arms are more confident and comfortable in their own skin. Although not entirely age related, the definition of the upper arm begins to fade when women reach their mid 30s.
Fortunately, this process of bingo wings can be slowed and even stopped with proper exercise of those problem areas. Women must take time to consistently work the front and back of their arms to ensure definition. Everyday activities, like bingo, can provide that needed exercise to keep arms looking great. The women who experience the best results are those who are conscious of their appearance, engage in regular exercise and those who properly work their arm muscles in order to improve appearance and tone. Although it may seem like a time consuming process, women can accomplish the necessary exercise by doing a fun and simple activity – bingo.
